The 8th Annual SocorroFest!
SocorroFest 2010 will be held October 8-9 at the historic city Plaza.
SocorroFest, sponsored by the City of Socorro and a host of volunteers, is an opportunity for families and friends to get together and spend the day feasting, dancing, visiting or just plain having fun.
Info on this site is mostly from the 2009 SocorroFest. Complete information on SocorroFest '10 will be added as it becomes available. In other words - start watching this space late summer and into the fall!
In 2009, SocorroFest began on Friday night with a Mariachi Youth Vocalist Contest at 5:30 pm. The vocalists were backed by Mariachi Calor, a fabulous group from Albuquerque. Then at 8 pm the popular band Gunzawless took the stage, making for a lively night of dancing in the streets!
Saturday was filled with activities for the whole family. The entertainment lineup included Wagogo, Albuquerque Blues Connection and Darren Cordova. Visitors chose between two outdoor stages, another stage at the nearby Stage Door Grill and a fourth stage at the Historic Capitol Bar on the Plaza. Saturday also featured a harmonica contest at noon and activities for the kids.
The “Spirits Tent” afforded adults the opportunity to sample and enjoy wine and brew from several NM wineries and breweries, including a local favorite: Socorro Springs Brewing Company.
Culinary treats were available throughout the plaza - from Mexican food favorites, bratwurst and barbecue, to snacks, sweets and sodas. Vendors in the park also sold pottery and ceramics, stained glass, quilts, books, jewelry and so much more.
The INFORMATION BOOTH was where visitors picked up complete schedules, or bought souvenir t-shirts and got their “passports," special packages containing discount coupons for use at the event or at local merchants after the event.
We hope you will join us for Socorrofest 2010 -- spend a day or two with us, enjoying a FREE state of mind! For more information contact the Socorro Heritage and Visitors Center at (575) 835-8927.
